Hello everyone and welcome back to my annual Met Gala post! I don’t usually post about designer pieces or collections because Im all about the affordable stuff but the Met Gala is one event that I actually love and I am always so excited to see who is wearing what. I am literally awake at 1:30am (Irish time) to see the first Met Gala fashion Instagrams! This year the topic was on the Costume Institutes new exhibition on Rei Kawakubo/Comme Des Garçons : Art Of The In-between and the event was co-hosted by Katy Perry (who actually for some reason didn’t wear the designer being honoured?). I must admit that this year even though the theme was Artistic there were a few plain janes attending when it came to a look but there were still some amazing looks! So in no particular order here are the looks that stood out for me in both a good and not to good way! ( starting with Rihanna above who basically won the Met Gala in her Comme Des Garçons look)
I mean its Cara in Chanel is there anything wrong with that? This look just screams Cara Delevingne and no one could pull this off better than her!
Alexa Chung is know for her cool and geek chic style with her signature bob and this dress is definitely perfect for her. I love how its simple but so elegant and polka dots are definitely something in her style category. Its really her but its also really glamorous and Met Gala worthy.
White is one of the most elegant colours when it comes to clothes because its so versatile and just adds a shot of glamour and dressy style to an outfit and I love this on Kate Hudson. There could have been a contrasting colour added in somewhere for example a vibrant clutch bag but its still a great look.
I love Bella Hadid (and Gigi of course) because she is so natural and gorgeous and her style is so great but I am not feeling this Alexander Wang catsuit. It just gives me questions like “what were the other options like instead of this?” and “How in the name of god is she supposed to go to the bathroom?” It was described by another blogger (LCclosets) as looking like a pair of expensive tights and I mean she’s not wrong there.
This look is kinda of plain in terms of shape or design but I actually really like it. I love the print because it is artistic and is an optical illusion. Its unique and not too crazy and looks comfortable to wear (unlike Bella’s catsuit I would imagine)
Halle looks amazing here. I love the gold detailing and the creative design behind his dress. It reminds of an illustration of a dress done with pencil shavings I saw online once and I just adore the gold detailing and the detail that has gone into it. Her smokey eye look is perfect for this dress and she pulls it of flawlessly.
Diane Kruger to be honest never really does anything wrong when it comes to the Met Gala. This white and gold dress by Prada is stunning on her and again its not fussy but it has really good details and is so elegant on her.
Zoe Kravitz kills it in this dress. It is amazing on her and that contrasting blonde pixie hair cut looks so good on her. Definitely giving her a 10/10
Sistine Stallone to be honest I am not really familiar with but she looks great in this Topshop dress. Its elegant, flattering, glamorous and has a slightly vintage feel to it. I love the fact Topshop and H&M get involved with the Met Gala because its brands I blog about and a high street store that is affordable (maybe not their met gala pieces though).
I really like this Versace dress on King Kylie and its something that only she could wear but I think her barbie blonde bob wig lets her down. She did say Donatella told her to go blonde but I think the length lets her down. The wig is very shiny to mention as well I just think a longer length could have looked much better with the dress.
I like the corset style detail on this dress (as its bang on trend right now) and combined with her make up and hair its such a glamorous and vintage-esque look.
Selena looks cute lets be honest. She looks happy and pretty like she’s heading off to prom which is great. The dress is feminine and again has really pretty little simple details. The pop of colours on her eyes really adds something to the look along with her pretty smile. Could be the Met Gala or it could be her new beau The Weeknd bringing out her happy side here.
I love this dress on Gigi and I love the style of it. It really suits her and she pulls it off amazingly but I will say that it matches with her skin tone a little to much and she’s a bit blended into it. I still love the look though!
I like this simple and sophisticated look and Ms Campbell. Its elegant, chic and stylish. I love the side slit and waist detail too it just adds so much glamour to it. She accompanied her by Edward Enninful who looks equally as dapper in Burberry.
Im not entirely sure what to make of Kenny Js dress here. I kind of like it but I also don’t. I like the top half as it has a retro sort of feel to it but then it goes into the skirt which just sort of goes into a knot at her waist and drapes down. I like the detailing and netting effect but I dont know its just a bit too sheer and a bit too black for an art themed Met Gala event.
Lastly we have Ruby Rose in Burberry and this is literally my favourite look from the whole night. She looks absolutely stunning in this dress and it is a beautifully designed piece. I love the edge detail on every ruffle and layer, the style of the dress with its flowing draped skirt and the simple neck and waist style. Its just such a gorgeous piece and her make up and hair are so well styled with it. I actually dont think anyone could wear this as well as her. I also love the fact that she is kind of a contrast to the dress herself with her tattoo sleeves and boyish style hair it just makes it all the more an amazing look!
To get a full list of looks and who wore what you can see them on Vogue and even cast an opinion on each look! So thats all on my Met Gala post for this year and I won’t lie Im already interested to see next years looks! Feel free to let me know what looks you were loving and not to keen on!
